10 days is too long!

Okay folks, it's time I write something. It's been 10 days since Chris posted, and I really have been slacking, haven't I?

I wonder if anyone actually READS our blog sometimes... (LOL)

Anyhow - an update:

We will be leaving for a trip to Oregon (with a small side trip to San Francisco) on July 19th. We will not be returning until the wee hours of the morning on July 28th. Due to this, we WILL be raising our store minimum quite high, and I fully expect a slew of e-mails to my CrackBerry (er, Blackberry) asking me "why is your minimum so high?" - but, that's fine, I'll happily respond to all my new and not so new (but very loved) customers.

Make sure to read the splash page for the minimum order bypass code, please. We'll be processing again sometime towards the 30th, most likely.

IN OTHER IMPORTANT NEWS Chris, the I refer to as "the best packer of parts in the world", will be having surgery on her shoulder on August 21st. This will mean that I will be in charge of ALL the things that Chris does during the day PLUS all my duties (which includes a day job) - so, look for updates between now and then but we'll probably move our minimum up and allow people to place small (any $ amount with a bypass code) orders in the realm of 10 lots or less due to my limited time for working...but, if we have something you can't live without I want to make sure that you get your parts, people!

I hate it when I find a store that has ONE THING I need for say, $1.00, and their minimum is $20 - and it's like, "but all I want is THIS ONE THING!" :::sigh::: I do not have a problem with filling one or two lot tiny orders...just write and ask - it's the 3+ tiny lot orders for under a dollar or so that take a lot of extra time, thus the $5 minimum (but that's nowhere near $20, now is it? Surely in our huge collection of awesome bits you can find $5 of items you just can't live without, can't you? I know I can! :-D )

Anyway...I hope everyone out there is doing great, and I hope to get to meet some of you at the BrickWorld next year as well.

Oh, and we'll be in the Portland area, so if anyone is out there reading this that would like to meet us let us know and we'll see what we can schedule!

Best to all,

Tracy

Wow! You are amazing!

Our customers, new and returning, are FABULOUS!

Brick-A-Thon has been a featured store on BrickLink for (get this) 4 consecutive months!

I know I say this month after month, but it's true, without our customers and their orders this never would have happened! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

I'd personally would like to thank everyone for their original orders as well! I'm not usually too involved in the posting of inventory, just pulling, packing and shipping orders, so when I'm gathering up parts for orders placed I'm always amazed at what is found in our store. Sometimes I want to keep the stuff for myself (I kid, I kid), but Tracy is very skilled at listing a wide variety of parts, so kudos to her for that.

This shop is really a joint effort - between Tracy, our customers, friends, and myself we're getting the word out there that Lego IS a great thing.

You guys all rock! Thanks again for another month on the Featured list! :-)

All the best,

Chris

Around the corner - BrickWorld

BrickWorld is just around the corner: http://www.brickworld.us

We'll be there late Wednesday night through Sunday early afternoon. If you'll be attending please drop us a line and let us know as we'd love to see you!

We'll be processing/shipping through Wednesday of next week, but orders placed or paid after Tuesday night won't be shipped/invoiced until the following week (23rd of June).

In other news - we have new Agents sets that I'm busy parting out and trying to post. If you want the minifigs from these sets I've got most of them listed, and will be putting up the new parts as soon as I am able. Lots of new dark blue parts in these sets, which is definitely exciting for the builder!

We'd love to hear from you so feel free to drop us a note here or on BrickLink! http://www.brickathon.com

Oh yeah!

Well folks, it's June and Brick-A-Thon is "Featured" for the 3rd month in a row!

A HUGE thank you is owed to our customers and friends who have helped make this happen. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU all very much!

Tracy and I are hitting BrickWorld in Chicago later this month, name tags and all, so if you see us don't hesitate to say hello! We're looking forward to chit-chatting with a lot of you!

Things are busy here on the order front, but I'm not complaining. I'm working on orders placed yesterday...today!

On another note, I'm really hungry. While Lego food looks yummy, I don't want to risk a trip to the ER. ;-)

Take care all!

-Chris!

LOTS going on!

First off, our post on the BrickLink Forum:

Hello all,Due to the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend, starting officially for me at 5PM tomorrow (Friday) night, we've moved our minimum in the store up to $1,000! Of course, we'll gladly accept orders from you during this time, but please be advised that NO NEW ORDERS WILL BE PROCESSED UNTIL EARLIEST MAY 27TH (TUESDAY).

To thank you in advance for your patience, you can still order from our store - the password is: holiday

If you place a NEW order of over $100 during this time (or add on $100+ to an existing order, through Monday night) we will give you an additional 5% off. If you have a coupon you can use that as well.

Thanks again for your continued patronage and friendship! We have a baseball game tomorrow night, and have many things to do in the house over the weekend so thought it best to hold up "rush" orders for now.

Best to you all,
Tracy & Chris
Brick-A-Thon
http://www.brickathon.com

NOW, on to other notes of interest:

We are putting a computer in the living room - it will probably not be up for another week or so. Why do you care? Honestly, some of you might find it interesting as to WHY I feel this is necessary. I handle pretty much all of the new, incoming product - I buy, sort, get items ready - it would be very, very nice to have a computer I can work on in the area that I am working the most - which is the living room, so we're setting one up on a larger screen so that when I'm sorting, say the new Indiana Jones sets, I can look at the "alternate parts" listing right then and there and not have to back-track 10 times to get it done right. I hate to list parts and then find out they're not the right ones (just as much as you'd hate hearing we have the alternate version) so this should assist us a lot. I'm also hoping to up my amount of verified inventories on sets with this new set-up.

I hope all of you have a lovely upcoming weekend!

Best,

Tracy

Chris-A-Thon here!

Hey all!

The arm/shoulder is doing better! I'd like to say thanks for all the well-wishes I have received. I went in for an MRI on on my shoulder this past Friday - the films I saw looked...interesting! Yeah. I have a follow-up appointment next week Tuesday and will find out then if I'm going to have to have surgery or not. I'm thinking I will since my shoulder comes out of joint wayyyy too easily. Thankfully I've never been pulling an order and had that happen, but there's always a first time for everything, right? ;-)

For now I'm able to keep up with orders fine, so no worries there. I pretty much insist that I use my arm the best I can after a dislocation since I don't want it to stiffen up and become even more useless, so no, Tracy isn't a slave driver. :-D

Anytime we feel that there will be a serious delay in order processing we try to let everyone ordering from us or thinking of ordering from us know ASAP so they can make the final decision on where to place their order. Thankfully that isn't the case now and hopefully won't be for awhile. *fingers crossed*

Just wanted to put in a quick update since I've been kinda silent on the blog front lately.

Read Tracy's blog entry below about BrickWorld if you haven't. It's a great event and I'm truely looking forward to going and meeting a bunch of people next month! :-)

Getting Ready For BrickWorld!

If you don't know what BrickWorld is and you like LEGO, well, you should: http://www.brickworld.us/

We went to Wheeling, Illinois for the first annual BrickWorld Event last year (they've got them planned through 2010 right now). I like to dub these events a "BrickVention": A convention of other Lego fans converging in one spot for 2-4 days, showing off all the great things they created. What better for the Legoholic? Oh, being able to purchase more product via the Lego store(s) in the area while being amongst kindred souls. In the Chicagoland area there are THREE Lego stores and all registered attendees are invited to a discount night at one of them (of which we are informed of at the convention).

Chris and I arrive very late Wednesday night, June 18th, just in time for some of the excellent classes they have scheduled for Thursday, as seen here: http://www.brickworld.us/?m=events&date=2008-06-19 and yes, folks, ONLY registered attendees can partake. Registering for $50 gains you access to all events Thursday-Sunday, and it's well worth it. Take a gander at all the things planned on the site.

BrickWorld, as with any BrickVention, just wouldn't be the same if it weren't for the ability to let the rest of the world inside our not-so-little hobby. On Saturday and Sunday the world can gain attendance for a small fee of $12 (down to $8 for 10 and under) and see what it is that we all love and work towards.

Last year they had a huge attendance (I don't recall the actual numbers, but remember being impressed) and pulled in a lot of people who really enjoy Lego as a hobby, young and old, to come and sample a world through the builders eyes. If you're curious, you can see some really amazing pictures on the BrickWorld site via Flickr.com (here's a link to a pic I took: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bricktracy/940427899/ one of my faves, also below).

The talent that goes into some of these projects is just mind boggling.

This year, we're told they've got a whole conference room devoted to train layouts, which will be amazing. The above, that's a train layout. Seriously.

If you're headed to BrickWorld and would like to meet the gals of Brick-A-Thon, please let us know, as we'd love to meet you too!

Update - Chris and the Store

Just a quick update:

Friday afternoon found me taking Chris to the ER for a dislocated shoulder. Chris will be fine, but is in a lot of pain and taking things very slowly. They put her shoulder back into place, but she's slow on pulling orders now. I worked on a lot of orders this weekend in order to try to get us caught up, and Chris INSISTED she do her share as she says, from history, if she doesn't use her shoulder then it will just get worse. (Yes, this has happened many times in the past, and it's happened at least once in the past year, but not an ER visit, thankfully).

Our minimum is set a bit high right now (down to $25 from $50) and will lower itself as we improve on our orders.

In other news - I've been a sorting freak and have managed to sort out 20 new Indiana Jones sets and have another 10 to do. These sets see new figures and some newer colors in parts, as well as brand new parts, so come and check out our newest additions. The other 10 should be done sometime this week (Temple of the Crystal Skull - nice set! Here's the inventory link: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=7627-1 )

I'm also posting a Bionicle set by hand (slow process, but necessary for Bionicle) so you'll see some interesting parts from that. As well, I've just posted a TON OF HAIR and have more hair on the way! I noticed that our hair stock was getting thin and needed a boost (kind of like Rogain?).

Thanks again to everyone reading and all your support!

Best,

Tracy

Backed up!

Orders are backed up since I had a job over the weekend that prevented me from working on things here in Lego Central. Plus we've gotten quite a few larger lot orders that'll take me a bit to fill. If you're waiting on an invoice please be patient. I'm working as fast as my feet and hands will allow. :-)

Thanks!

Got Original Brown? WE DO!

It's been awhile since we've updated - we've been very busy with many things, specifically finalizing books for Uncle Sam. Never a fun chore, but something that must be done.

In new news, we're open for orders, the minimum is back to $5.00, things are running very smoothly and we miss your orders!

(SALE HAS SINCE ENDED - NO LONGER APPLIES) SALE: If you stop in and decide you just can't live without many of our amazing items let us know in the comments of your order and we'll give you a "Blog Reader Discount" (just mention the blog). WHAT is the discount you ask? Well, if you order up to $100 you'll get 5% off your order total, and if you order $100-$500 you'll get 10% off your order total (both of these include sets, so if you want an expensive set this is a good deal!). Want to place an order OVER $500 and make our day? We'll give you 15% up to $750 and 20% off on orders of $1,000 (DOES NOT INCLUDE SETS, SORRY)! Seriously! Yes, we would like some new orders so come and buy!

We DO have lot considerations (extra charges), but that only affects you if your order is not equal to 1 lot per $1 or more (i.e. - order 50 lots, your order needs to be $50 or over).

Any questions? Let us know!

Now...

BROWN : We've just added a TON of new original brown parts. Come see what we've got - these are all NEW. I should also be uploading more parts from sets and minifigs coming shortly. I'm hoping things get a bit calmer now that tax season is almost over (for the bookkeeping end of things).

BRICKWORLD: Going to BrickWorld in the Chicago-land area in June? (www.brickworld.us) If so, and you'd like to meet the Brick-A-Thon team, let us know, as we'd LOVE to meet some of our customers and associates! We'll be coming in for the full Thursday-Saturday and leaving on Sunday afternoon.

OREGON in JULY: We'll be in Portland, Oregon in July during the 2nd half of the month (for a little over a week) and would love to meet you there! Our schedule will be a bit hectic, but if you're in the area and would like to meet us please let us know.

Now, with all that said, come by and place an order with us at Brick-A-Thon! (www.brickathon.com)

Featured!

Tracy and I were so excited to see that Brick-A-Thon made the "Featured" catagory in the store listings this month. It wouldn't be possible, of course, without our customers giving us lots and lots of work to do! Thanks so much to all our customers old and new for the continued business and support!

Has it really been over a week?!

Hello all!

Unfortunately we've been slacking on the blog lately. Last week was fairly busy here in Lego Zentral so there was not much time to write. Boooooo!

This week orders have been coming in, getting filled, and going out the door - just the way I like it. :-) Tracy has been adding some pretty sweet items in the store, and I think she has a ton more goodies to post over the next few days or so. You never ever know what'll end up in the store, so please keep checking back before someone else snags the item you're looking for!

Yes, it's true, we've implemented a "Lot Limit" on all orders. While we appreciate all orders that we receive, pulling a 100+ lot order for a small amount of dough is a little discouraging. This will definitely assist in processing and delivery times of all orders that we receive. We haven't had to use the Lot Limit yet, but hopefully it won't hinder too many of you from ordering in our shop. It'll be enforced, but I do believe there will be some head room here, depending on what types of parts are ordered, quantity, etc. Like Tracy said, we're not doing this to scare away customers, it's just that something needed to be done to justify larger lot orders full of penny parts.

Tracy and I are gearing up for BrickWorld 2008. We attended last year, but this year Brick-A-Thon will be getting more involved with auctions, sponsorship, and getting out there to meet as many people as we can! We're really looking forward to meeting some of the nice folks that we deal with on Bricklink.

That all being said...on to orders!

Happy St. Patty's Day!

It's the day of shamrocks and green beer!

And order pulling for me! At least until tonight anyway!

Yes, orders are caught up, YAY! It was a crazy week last week, but I'd like to thank all of our customers for their patience while we were working on getting caught up. THANK YA!

If you're Irish like myself and enjoy St. Patty's Day like I do I hope it's a fun and safe one!

Wednesday, March 12, 2008

Still at it!

I've been working through the stack and am now on orders from the 11th. Hopefully by tomorrow, depending on what happens tonight, I'll be caught up for the most part. If you're still waiting on an invoice just hang tight. They're getting out, I promise!

Have a good evening everyone!

-Chris

Monday, March 10, 2008

Back.

I'm processing orders again beginning with the 6th.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS FOR EVERYONE!

It's that time of year again, folks - it's time to CELEBRATE!

We have two birthdays this year that we're celebrating and we wanted to wrap this up into one little sale. Chris's birthday was February 7th and mine is March 8th. Due to this, we've raised the minimum to $20 through March 9th (we'll change it back on the 10th) and order processing WILL BE SLOW as no one will be processing orders after tomorrow morning until next Monday.

Now, here's the sale part of this:

If you place a NEW order with us and the total # of lots are UNDER TEN LOTS you get 10% off your order (and yes, you have to hit $20). Any order under 20 lots will get 5% off. If you have a coupon, yes you can use this, why not? It's our birthdays, let's celebrate! You just need to make sure you put a note in the order about our birthday sale to make this valid.

To recap:

Place a new order, under 10 lots gets you 10% off; under 20 lots gets you 5%
off.
You can use your coupons.
New minimum is $20.
Orders will be SLOW to process, so don't expect an invoice until mid-next week at the earliest (we'll try to get them out sooner, of course).
We'll be manually giving discounts on ALL NEW ORDERS placed.
Make sure you put a comment in the order notes to get your discount regarding our birthday sale.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend, we're actually going to try to both take the weekend OFF! :-O Shocking, I know!

General Stuff

I should think most of our readers would be familiar with the BrickLink Forum, but just in case you've not looked at it, I encourage you to do so:

http://www.bricklink.com/messageList.asp

Check it out with the option of not looking at the replies so you just see all the main messages - there's quite a plethora of good information there.

________________________________________

In other news. Chris is working on order processing and I'm at work dealing with month-end and railcar issues. The market is insane for sulphuric acid right now, and that's really interesting considering we're in a "non" recession.

I'm wondering how many folks out there are curbing their buying of the brick due to this "non" recession we're in, and if you get back your huge tax refund (in addition to anything you might normally get, the $300-$600 - in the US only) will you spend it on Lego?

I'm waiting for the new Green Grocer set...I haven't built the other two sets in that series yet, but I really want it!

I'll see if I can't find a pic and link it in.

Tuesday, February 26, 2008

Let us give you a hand! (or maybe 11,000+?)

For any of you who've been to one of the Lego stores across the nation (or in another country) and have experienced the "Pick-A-Brick wall" and the "Build a Minifig station", I'm sure you were amazed. I know I was the first time I went to the Orlando store, my very first store of Lego I'd ever experienced. I remember vividly how exciting it was, and this wasn't that long ago. I re-found the love of plastic building bricks at the young age of 33.

Now, after almost 5 years of absorbing myself in the plastic goodness that is Lego, and successfully building a large store on BrickLink, I'm branching out and trying to find more people to enjoy the love of building bricks that I have.

One of my all time favorite things has been minifigures (and Star Wars, and Fabuland...but, if we're looking at the toy itself, it's minifigures and parts of minifigs). The Lego store in Orlando has a wall of minifigures that you see behind the main register bay at the front of the store (you can see above). The first time I saw that my mind went wild with all the amazing creations I could make!

If you look at our BrickLink photo (http://www.bricklink.com/feedback.asp?u=BrickAThon), you'll see one of my first creations - an undead army, made from Luke Skywalker torso assemblies (removed the yellow hands and replaced with black or white - some have one, some have another), used both the glow in the dark and regular "evil" skeleton heads, black police hats and black legs. I love this army. There's something amazing about having over 1,000 little army men that all look alike defending your Lego collection!

When I go to the Orlando store I always see with great interest the children busily creating new figures to play with. You get 3 for $10 plus a little carrying case. They come with a torso assembly, a leg assembly, a head and one accessory (hat/hair or a weapon/utensil) per figure. So, for about $3.34 each you get to make your own figure based on the parts they have in stock. That is pretty darn nifty!

The Pick-A-Brick wall is set up a bit differently in that you can pick as many parts as you want off the wall and put them into pre-priced cups or tubs, anything you can fit and get the lid closed on you can have for that price. Nice idea, but not always the best selection. Same problem with the figure parts.

This is where we come in, folks. Do you want to create your own figures but get frustrated with not having enough parts? Never fear, Brick-A-Thon is here!

At last count (about 15 minutes ago), here's what I show our store as having in stock, just for some examples (*these could be new or used, too!):

11,493 hands in 20 different types.

56,589 heads in 156 different types plus another 40 "alternative" heads (i.e. SpongeBob heads, you might find a Dobby head, Martian heads, etc.).

22,964 pieces of headgear in 159 different types - this includes hats, hair, helmets, etc.

27,749 leg assemblies in 74 different types.

12,287 torso's with no arms/hands (just the torso) for you to customize - in 65 different types.

40,631 torso assemblies in over 218 different types - these include the hands and arms.

We also have plenty of arms, minifig utensils and even some footgear for you to choose from. It's quite amazing! We have over 170,000 items in those sections listed above, alone! Just think of all the possibilites for creations!

One of my personal store goals was to create a sort of "minifig pick-a-brick" aspect to our shop. I want you to be able to come in and buy all different types of figure parts to create what YOU want. I try to keep in a good stock and am constantly listing new and used figure items and parts. I also try to keep in a good selection of brand new figures from the new sets and get parts for those as I'm able.

Chris is an integral part of my deciding what we should put into the shop for many reasons, one of which is she does most of the order pulling and sees what people are buying and can tip me off when it appears we're running low on something or are having a "run" on the product. Another thing is that Chris is what I like to call an "ultimate consumer" - she loves a lot of the basics of Lego that the "non-collector" can relate to, being that she's new to Lego, so I get a new viewpoint on the parts that I've lost over the years. It's great to see her reaction to some of the parts that come out, and she just recently ordered a bunch of Indiana Jones parts to build with and to make her own figures out of.

We have a unique store with over 5,000 different lots available and over 550,000 total items (and I'm trying to keep it at this count). There are other well stocked shops out there that I appreciate a great deal, but one of my goals is to be your "one stop shop" for at least 50% of what you need. Not many shops out there can say that for the large collector or builder who needs a lot of different items in all types of different genres.

***Sorry if this post today sounds like an advertisement, but honestly I'm just very excited about where we've gotten this store and I want everyone to know what we're doing and WHY we're doing it! We love our customers, we love our store, we love our LEGO!

Please don't hesitate to stop in and say HI and if you order some figure parts and are making something new out of them please do send us pictures as we'd love to see them and would be happy to post them in future blogs. This goes for your own MOC's made with our parts - we'd love to see it all!

It's Friday, the root canal is done!

Just a short note to all my friends out there (and all of those who ghost read us)...

I went in at 8:30AM today to have the root canal done - and I found out that I've got a couple cracks in my tooth as well. So, almost $400 later and my tooth has a temp filling in it. I have to get the crown done still. Lovely.

That being said - if anyone out there wants a coupon just leave us a note (via BrickLink - the messaging system works best) and we'll issue a 8% off ALL items coupon for you just because you took the time to read and WE LIKE YOU - but, you have to put in "give me your blog coupon" or something to that effect so I know why you're asking for said coupon. That would be LOVELY!

My dentist told me a little trick - since I can't take codeine (nasty headaches) he said to take 3 Advil liquicaps and 2 fast acting Tylenol at the same time and that it should work the same as codeine for the pain numbing - How hot is that? Okay everyone out there in pain-land, let's all try it! Then go buy Lego since you're not in pain anymore! YES!

Oh, and by the way - I'm at WORK! I managed to make it in and surprisingly, at 1:15PM, I'm doing alright so far (let me knock on fake wood here on my desk). Let's hope it continues...and maybe I'll tell Chris we're going out for BEER tonight! WooHoo!

Wooooooooot!

Over the past weekend I discovered the joys of using the "chat" feature on BL. I met some people and hope to meet some more. It's great to be able to chat with people in real time that you've been dealing with in only "order" form (did that make sense???). Anyway...yeah!

It's always amazing to me when you see the fruits of your labor. Repeat customers, more business, more orders, and building relationships and friendships with folks you meet and deal with is a great thing! Brick-A-Thon has come a looooong way in the past year and that's all thanks to the teamwork between Tracy and myself and our friends who come over to help sort and count and who contribute their time and skills to better our store. I'd like to take the chance to thank all our friends (you know who you are) for helping us make Brick-A-Thon a success!

On the order front, orders are on schedule and caught up for the most part. Hopefully that'll change and I'll be running around like a chicken with my head cut off soon. I'm almost positive there'll be sorting and posting in the very near future.

I hope everyone is having a good week!

Root canal.

Hey everyone!

Well, it's Monday. Time for me to catch up on outstanding orders from late Saturday (I pretty much got things caught up through 6 pm Saturday night) and into Sunday and today.

Tracy went to the dentist this morning because 2 of her back molars have been painfully bothering her for the past few weeks. They suggested a root canal on one of her teeth (at least) but couldn't numb her up properly. So they referred her to another specialty dentist and she has an appointment tomorrow morning at 7:30 am. Now she's in bed trying to sleep off the effects of the gas and other stuff they gave her at the dentist today and then she'll head out to her "real life" job in the early afternoon. She's hurting, I can definitely tell, and I feel badly for her. :-( Poor Tracy.

That's all the new news from Brick-A-Thon for now.

Have a great day, everyone!

Orrrrrder up!

Just thought I'd stop in and type up an update since it's been a few days. :-)

Today I'm working on finishing off the 15th and starting on orders placed today. Tracy is busy doing taxes, so I figured I may as well keep busy myself. She can't be the ONLY one pulling a 6 day week this week. :-) I'm thinking we'll take some time to ourselves tonight and go out for a nice dinner someplace. Even Lego needs to take a backseat once in awhile. *ducks while Lego addicts world wide start throwing plastic bits at me*. :-P

Back to the grind! Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Happy ValenLEGO Day!

I'd like to wish a Happy Valentines Day, Anti-V-Day, Black Thursday, or as my friend Paige says, "Happy 'Guy who got his head cut off' Day" to everyone out there in Lego-Ville.

Today I'm working on completing a 7,000+ part order that we received a day or so back. I have 2 other bigger orders to complete and a handful of smaller ones, so I'll be on the move today. :-)

What're you doing today for this wonderful "Hallmark" holiday? We'd love to know! Not sure what we're up to yet, but you never know what the day will bring. ;-)

Have a good one, all!

Mid-Week!

Tracy here:

I'm busy at work (but stealing the last few minutes for myself, ha-ha!) with my co-hort who handles trucks being out for the rest of the week so I'm handling all truck shipments, rail stuff I handle, plus all phones (incoming) - it's INSANITY! (Susan Powter anyone?)

Just a quick note to say that I plan on posting more parts here in the near future. I have tubs of figures to post and figure parts to go through, as well as more sets to sort, etc., etc. It's been busy, and a lot of fun to boot. I love the progress we're making and appreciate all the comments we're getting (okay, not a ton, but I appreciate everyone who does comment!).

As Chris posted yesterday, invoices are getting stuck in spam boxes or getting incinerated as a LOT of customers are not getting them, so do let us know if you see your order marked "Ready" and you haven't seen your invoice and we'll re-send it immediately.

Dani, a friend of Chris's (and mine) came over yesterday and said to Chris, "wow, there's actually floor in here!" in regards to the living room being cleared out of product (most of which is in the store now after our last huge addition over Christmas break). Yes, there is a floor! It's amazing what storage options and simple sorting/posting can do for a home. If you have a home full of Lego you know what I'm talking about.

It's 5:00PM - time to skiddaddle.

Bye all!

Easy like Tuesday Morning.

Well, it's Tuesday and because all hands at Brick-A-Thon have been working non-stop the past few days all orders are caught up and all is calm.

Good thing because I'm feeling a bit...under the weather. I noticed my throat was slightly scratchy earlier this morning and now I feel achy and tired. Tracy and I have been taking turns getting colds and such all winter and I guess it's my turn. :-( I'm going to be taking it easy today, needless to say.

Thanks to Jennifer for posting the longest comment to date here on the Brick-A-Thon blog! I'm always interested to see and hear about how other people deal with tons of bricks in their homes and how they run things in their store. Everyone does it differently, and everyone probably feels that they have the best and most efficient way of doing things. :-) Brick-A-Thon has come a long way since Tracy began it many moons ago, and I'm glad to be a part of it.

On a final, frustrating note we've been getting contacted quite a few times as of late from customers not receiving their invoices. Of course all invoices go out within a day or so of the order being received by us, but they're getting eaten alive by spam blockers...or some strange anti-Lego force in cyber land. ;-) Like it says on our splash page, if you notice your order is marked "ready" it means that it's been pulled and it's awaiting a payment. If you haven't gotten an invoice feel free to contact us and we'll send out a new one right away. Hopefully whatever is going on with the missing invoices will be resolved sooner than later. *blah*

This little buckaroo is going to go rack out on the couch. Zzzzzzzzzzz...

Monday, Monday.

Tracy and I pretty much spent the day yesterday working on the store. She was adding parts and I was pulling orders. We're still getting in "size-y" orders with a lot of lots!

We also went to one of our local Wal-Marts and bought 7 more Sterilite stackable bin/drawars. We've been slowly converting our main room that holds a bulk of our inventory. When I first moved down here and started helping with the store there were file boxes full of sorted sets stacked on top of one another. So if someone ordered a part from a set that was on the very bottom of a stack you had to move every box to get to it. While it built up my arm muscles, it was a pain in the rear. Tracy got a tip from a fellow Bricklinker who suggested that these bins were the way to go. Now when we go to Wal-Mart we hit the bin aisle and pick up as many as we can. Then when we get home I transfer everything over. We probably only need to make a few more trips and it'll be complete. Needless to say it makes the whole order pulling process easier so I can get things done and out the door faster, which makes both me and the customer happy. :-)

Tracy and I (mainly Tracy) sorted some new sets that we got in, and there's still another stack of different sets that need to be done, so those will be added into the inventory this week I would imagine. Keep your eyes open!

Today I'll be working on some leftover orders from the weekend (9th and 10th). If you're expecting an invoice, it'll be coming sooner than later!

Happy Monday everyone!

Parts and more parts

I have thousands of parts to list, folks...thousands...thousands and thousands more! New, used, all different kinds. Keep checking back for new items. You can see what's new in our store by clicking the "newest" link near the Search bar in the store (left hand side). Come see what I've been up to in the way of posting parts and sets and such!

Chris has been inundated with some huge orders as of late and she's being quite the trooper. I wonder if that cheesecake I got her for her birthday had a positive effect on her? ::scratches head::

Just wanted to pop in and say hello to anyone out there reading. Please, if you read us leave us a note to let us know you were here!

Tracy

It's FRIDAY!

After a much needed afternoon off and building a SW set that we had here in the house, I'm back to pulling orders.

I had a lovely birthday yesterday. It was faaaaabulous!

Have a good weekend everyone!

Birthday!

Hey all!

Since it's my birthday today I'll be processing orders that have come in/come in before noon Eastern time. After that I'm going to sit on my rump and build something while watching "Judge" shows (People's Court, Judge Judy, etc). They're my guilty pleasure!

I'll be back to full order-pulling swing tomorrow.

Antarctica anyone?

I was taking a breather in between pulling orders yesterday and was poking around on the internet for a bit and I saw something on the Yahoo home page about the coldest place on earth. Now, I'm from Wisconsin - born and raised, and while growing up with Winters like you can have up in the midwest, you think there's nothing colder than -25 with a windchill of -35. Brrrrr! I read that in Antarctica the temps. can get down to -85. Not that that should be surprising, but it IS surprising to know that there's actually people that LIVE down there - mostly scientists to be exact - in the McMurdo base.

I was intrigued and "Googled" McMurdo because I love to Google EVERYTHING and there were pictures that people posted that lived down there. There is a bowling alley, coffeehouse, restaurants, bars, you name it. I just wonder if there's any LEGO down there?

Being able to look out and just see nothing but white and mountains and seals - sounds great!

How 'bout it, Tracy? Should Brick-A-Thon make the move to the great, white south and send out our packages via pigeon? :-)

Swimmingly!

That's how orders have been going this week thus far. I think the "craziness" is finally over, but Tracy is posting new parts, and I'm going to be sorting and counting for a period of time today, so there's more items to come.

Maybe the craziness will just...continue...for eternity. :-)

Regardless, I'm happy to be getting a slight break from pulling orders for 10 hours a day.

Keep the orders coming though! Tracy and I are happy to help people get the parts they need.

Happy Monday!

Hello all!

Tracy and I had a great weekend! We watched the Super Bowl yesterday and saw the Giants WIN! I'm a Green Bay fan being from Wisconsin and all, and for some reason even though the Giants beat the Packers 2 weeks back I was still rooting for them. It was a great victory for them, and I'm thrilled to bits that Tracy enjoys football as much as I do! She was even nice enough to take me to my very first NFL game this past September. We saw the Bucs vs. Rams, and it was very exciting indeed. I figure there would be no chance I'd ever be able to see a Packers game because tickets are near impossible to get, so it was great to be able to go see a game, regardless of who was playing. I suppose, however, that I should root for the Bucs since they're closest to me now, LOL! ....I'll always love my packers, however!

Orders...they're managable thus far! Today I'm doing a final order from the 2nd (I worked on them for a few hours yesterday to avoid yet another crazy week this week), and then doing the 3rd and whatever came in from the 4th. So, if you placed an order with us, you should expect an invoice soon!

Have a good day everyone!

Caught up...again!

Hello all!

We're caught up, re-open, and Tracy's been adding parts!

Look, look, look!

Thursday, January 31, 2008

Short update.

Hello everyone!

Chris reporting from Lego Central.

Orders are only backed up only through the 29th, which is good, but the lot amounts and volume of parts on some of the orders I'm looking at in my stack are...shall we say...freakin' big! So, for sanity's sake (mainly my own, but I'm sure Tracy will appreciate it as well) we're temporarily closed. We will re-open when things get hammered down a little. :-) Shouldn't take too long, however.

How's about all the shops on BL who now have to change their names so that it doesn't contain "Lego" in it. Man, I'm happy that Tracy didn't choose Lego-A-Thon for her shop name way back when. Imagine all the stuff we'd have to change!! Yikes!

Well, the Spice Girls are blaring out of my computer speakers (I listen to Yahoo! Music while I'm working since it's constantly going w/out interruption and today I have the "90's Pop" station going) and it's inspiring me to go pull some parts!

Later, dudes!

-Chris

At the other end of the world...

...here I sit, at the other end of the world. While Chris is busy working in LegoCentral, I'm sitting here at my "day job" - having just finished a can of soup for lunch (better than the lunch yesterday, no?). In case anyone is interested what the President of Brickathon, Inc. does for a "day job", I manage a fleet of almost 200 sulphuric acid railcars. I take care of all the shipments (i.e. - order taking, making sure the cars get out and to the customer, testing due on the fleet, logistics, etc., etc.) and am also my boss's "girl" or "secretary" (depending on his mood). My boss, JCW, is amusing, but I have magnificently fast typing skills so I can't say as I blame him at all for wanting me to type things for him that I can pound out in minutes (that would literally take him hours).

So...I'm feeling a bit better and as such that means hopefully more product will be listed in the store very shortly. I did get a few items put up last night, and plan on parting some sets pre-Superbowl Sunday to be uploaded probably early next week. We should have some new Indiana Jones parts in stock soon. We've got LOTS of things to sort and upload so just keep on checking back for new product as it really does change fast. When we re-opened less than 15 days ago we had almost 5,500 different lots - we've sold out of over 300 of those lots in this little amount of time.

I'd also like to take a moment and just say that Chris is doing amazing work. I know I appreciate her efforts greatly and your feedback has been much the same. Thanks for supporting our project in building the best little Lego store out there for you!

Best,

Tracy

Big orders....

Seems that I'll be skipping around Lego Central for the day. :-)

Hello all my friends in Blogging-Lego Land

I have to clock back in at my day job in a few, but thought I'd say hello to all our lovely readers out there (and if you're reading, leave us a comment already!).

Today for lunch it's a can of Tuna fish and a donut. Yes, I lead a very, very exciting life away from the House of Plastic I call home.

Chris has been taking good care of the store. I haven't yet been up to adding more inventory and such, but hope to sometime soon this week start back at adding more parts and items.

We now have a new postage set-up so we can get packages ready quicker to mail out (we're sending out a batch today - I prepare them at night now) and we're sending out Tracking #'s on all US shipments in e-mail format. This is a nice new feature we can offer and I hope this information is helpful to folks. We're using Endicia and they have a set-up where you can track the package directly from the e-mail, which is great news for our customers! I wish we had a bit more ability for what we could offer overseas, but I do save all the Custom Label #'s for our overseas packages just in case it's needed.

In interesting news: Did you realize that it's illegal (per USPS Customs information) to send plastic toys to Italy? This happens all the time (there are quite a few Italian Lego collectors), but it's evidently a no-no and if you order from Italy your package could get confiscated by customs over there. I have heard that packages going to Italy take longer than normal, and that's probably why.

That's my update for the day. Chris is right, I have been playing Final Fantasy X again. After I finish this I plan to start X-2 again (never finished that) and then probably try FFXII as I have it but haven't played it. Of course, I also have to find time to build, have a life outside of Lego (riiiiight) and do normal daily duties of living! Ha!

-Tracy

New career path?

We received this feedback today:

"Brick-A-Thon for President! USA! USA! USA!"

Hmmmm...whaddaya think, Tracy?

:-)

LOL, I love it!

Today's post.

Good day to all who are reading this!

Today I'm finishing up 2 larger orders that were placed on the 27th then hammering out some other larger ones that were placed on the 28th and going beyond that time permitting. This week is so much more...calmer...than last week. It's lovely!

I was surprised to see that Brick-A-Thon was on the "Featured" store list on the front page when I looked yesterday. Not bragging, but even though we got there because another store closed, it's still a good feeling knowing that all the work that Tracy and I put into this store is worth it. Seeing that and getting the feedback and nice comments that we do from our Lego friends and customers is totally worth it as well!

I was also surprised to see when I logged in this morning that I was 1 of over 5,000+ users currently on BL. Tracy says that people are thinking that bots or whatever go on the site which will jack up the numbers like that. Even still, that was odd to see.

I really don't have much else to report this morning. Maybe Tracy will grace the blog with her ramblings today and have something more interesting to say. :-)

Cheers!

A blip about what I enjoy building the most!

Monday again!

Tracy made it back to her job in Tampa today for the first time in almost a week. I'm happy to report that she's acting like herself! I'm sure she still feels a little yucky, but hopefully she'll keep getting better by the day. This morning she proclaimed, "I can smell!". She was so excited! Yes, being sick is not fun. I'm glad she's doing better.

Today I'm working on some bigger orders placed over the weekend, including one for a child's birthday party. It's interesting to see some of the bits in some of these orders that I pull and I wonder what people plan on doing with the pieces. :-)

Before I moved down to Florida (I grew up in Wisconsin and lived there 'til I moved down here a little over a year ago) I really didn't know too much about Lego and really didn't care too much about it either. I worked a 2 daycare/preschools and there's always bins of parts and such in places like that for kids to play with, but I guess I just never really noticed it. Since meeting up with Tracy and going to the Lego store in Orlando a lot, I've grown to know about the parts, what they're used for, how they work, etc. Last night I built a police helicopter from the "City" series (and used the "Polizei" stickers instead of the "Police" stickers - nice to have the choice!) and a garbage truck from the same series. I'm also very much into Exo force and have a nice little collection them (but I only like to build the robots with the guys with the crazy hair, not the "bad guys"). Lego really is a wonderful product to deal with and fun to play with as well!

This was a bit longer than I intended it to be, LOL!

Back to work for me!

-Chris

La la la la laaaaaa!

Happy Sunday!

Tracy is still making her flu recovery and is currently playing Final Fantasy 10, I believe, on the PS2. She's gearing up to go back to work at her "away from Lego" job tomorrow. It took almost a week for her to shake the flu, and she's still not done caughing and being congested. I hope nobody else has to get what she's got. Yucky! :-(

Today I'm going to be working on a few of the smaller orders that we received yesterday. Tomorrow it'll be back to full business to get the biggers ones pulled and out the door. It drives me insane to get too far behind on orders, like what happened last week, so on the weekend I usually try to get some of the smaller bits pulled and invoiced so things don't creep up on me. Last week I felt like the game "Tetris" for the NES (I'm a huuuuuge 8-bit NES fan). The bricks (no pun intended) kept coming and stacking up on me. BUT, all is well now! :-)

Hope all who are reading have a wonderful Sunday!

-Chris

Back open!

It's been a long week, but we're caught up on orders. Yay!

All I have to say is...

NEXT!!!!!

:-)

Never fear, Brick-A-Thon is here...or will be soon!

Chris reporting for duty, alive and kicking!

Most of our orders have gotten processed and invoice, but I still have around 6 outstanding that were semi-larger that I will be processing today. We will re-open no later than tonight.

Tracy is feeling better as well and surprisingly I'm still dodging and weaving this flu B thing that she has. *knock on Lego* I hate being sick more than she does, if that's possible.

That being said, on to the processing!

-Chris

Thursday, January 24, 2008

Sick, Closed, but not stale!

Tracy here -

Being that I can't keep still, even with "Flu B" (whatever that is), I'm posting bagged up parts (so I'm not infecting our LEGO!).

Went to the doc yesterday and they now have an amazing little test that will tell you what type of flu virus you have (A or B) and it looks like one of those pregnancy tests you see on t.v., sort of - in that a little line matches up to the type. Man how things have changed in the past few years - I always just assume I have the flu and treat it as such, but now the doc has given me some flu treatment to help fight it, etc. - incredible how we're coming along medically out there!

Glad that we have Chris on board, as otherwise the shop would be down a LOT longer.

Hope to be re-open again no later than Friday.

Tracy

Wednesday, January 23, 2008

Temporarily closed.

I talked with the boss and we decided to close shop for a day or so due to all the orders we've gotten in. I like to get things processed and out the door to our customers quickly and that's proving to be difficult this week unfortunately.

We appreciate every single order we get and want to give each one the attention it deserves instead of rushing to get things finished, which leads to inaccuracy. I'd like to avoid that all together.

Rest assured we will re-open within the next day or so.

Thanks for your patience!

-Chris

Wednesday

So today is Wednesday - crunch time usually. The day I try to get most outstanding orders from the weekend completed and get the store fully caught up.

Unfortunately that won't be the case this week. :-(

Today I'm still plugging away at the 21st (there were a TON of orders that came in on Monday - must be the unofficial "Lego Purchasing Day" for Bricklinkers!). Sooooo, if you placed an order with us on the 21st expect an invoice soon!

Tracy is home sick today. She had a fever overnight and since she has a co-worker who's health is up and down where it probably would be a bad, bad, very BAD thing if she got a cold with congestion, Tracy opted to stay home today and nip this in the bud.

As for me, I'm feeling a-ok (I worked as a pre-k teacher for a bit before moving down here, with some work as a cook at an Italian restaurant in between teaching gigs) so my immune system is fortunately still strong from that. Nah, I'm not bragging at all. ;-)

I'm just darn-diddly-arn determined to get these orders cleared out.

-Chris

Tuesday, January 22, 2008

Go Chris, Go!

*Whew*

I am working on orders, really! I'm just so excited by the new blog.

Tracy is a little under the weather, so she came home from work at her other job early. She's currently watching some random cop show on TV. She's so silly. :-)

I'm sure she'll be posting some different inventory over the next day or so. We just re-opened this past Friday after being closed for almost a month. Our goal was to get all the unlisted bits in the house posted. We almost did it, too! We also re-organized things around here to make order pulling more efficient. Hopefully it won't affect the promptness of invoices being sent out - I'm kinda feeling like the rabbit in the story of the tortoise and the hare. I'm sleeping under a tree around the bend and the orders are slowly creeping up on me.

Nah, it's not that bad. Being 2 days out is actually ok. It's ok. Right?

;-)

Ok, back to work.

Go Chris, Go!

Hello from Lego Central!

Hi! I'd like to welcome all who are reading this to the official Brick-A-Thon blog. I'm Chris (ummmm...the one in the shirt and jeans in the picture above, *teehee*). I work on putting together most of the orders we get at Brick-A-Thon, including packing them up and shipping them out.

We've decided to keep this blog to let you become more aware of what is new at Brick-A-Thon. Since I'm the one working on your order, this can also be used as a tool for communications on how things are going in the way of order processing. It will also help you get to know me better. Everyone knows Tracy (well, not EVERYONE but people on BL sure as heck do!), but after being around Lego and Bricklink for a little over a year, I barely know ANYONE! I want to make new Lego friends, too! :-)

I will try to update this daily, but since the store re-opened on Friday we've been getting SWAMPED with some pretty amazing orders! Usually I am able to process and get things out the door within 2-4 business days, but until things calm down a little there might be another day tacked onto the processing time.

Today I'm working on orders placed on the 20th, and hopefully I'll be working on the 21st by this afternoon. So if you ordered on these 2 days, expect an invoice sooner than later. :-)

I'd like to thank all of our customers for their business and support. Tracy and I really appreciate all the nice comments and feedback that we receive. 2008 should be a great year all around!

-Chris
